Proverb is a kind of fixed word in the language which is short and exquisite,harmonious in tone,rich in meaning,and carries all kinds of cultural information.It is an effective way to spread Chinese culture,an important window for foreign students to learn and understand Chinese culture,it plays an important role in language expression.In Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language(TCFL),teaching foreign students a certain number of proverbs can promote the learning efficiency of foreign learners,and also can help foreign learners understand Chinese culture.At present,the researches on proverbs mainly focus on the research of proverb noumenon and the comparison of proverb culture between English and Chinese.There are few researches on proverbs in TCFL and TCFL textbook.In order to carry out the teaching of TCFL better,it is necessary to study proverbs in TCFL textbook.This paper takes the series of Boya Chinese as the research object,classifies and analyzes the proverbs in eight textbooks in four stages: primary,quasi intermediate,intermediate and advanced,and compares the main types and presentation ways in the textbooks.It is found that the main types of proverbs in the series of Boya Chinese textbooks are moral cultivation,social life and natural environment,which are mainly presented in the way of context,chunk and vocabulary.Through statistical analysis of the types and presentation of proverbs in each stage of the textbook,it is found that the textbook has the following characteristics in the selection and compilation of Proverbs:rich types,strong practicability,moderate difficulty,and some shortcomings,such as low recurrence rate of proverbs,single form of practice,unbalanced proportion of presentation,etc.What to teach and how to teach is the primary problem in TCFL.Based on the comprehensive analysis of the cultural types and presentation of proverbs in Boya Chinese textbook,this paper attempts to design cases with the purpose of integrating proverbs into the teaching process.This paper puts forward some thoughts and suggestions on the principles and teaching methods of proverb selection in TCFL.In the selection and compilation of proverbs in TCFL,we should increase the presentation of vocabulary and semantic field,improve the recurrence rate of proverbs,and select proverbs that can spread Chinese excellent culture.In the teaching of Chinese proverbs as a foreign language,teachers can timely teach the proverbs to students by means of word teaching and random teaching;use the similarity of language and culture to connect the expression of Chinese proverbs with the similar expression of students’ mother tongue to deepen students’ understanding of proverbs;organize competition activities related to proverbs,enrich students’ learning activities,review and consolidate learned proverbs.
