A Report On Simulated Simultaneous Interpretation Practice Under The Guidance Of Interpretive Theory

Nowadays,the process of globalization is speeding up,and the relations between countries and regions are getting closer.Under the rich and different cultural backgrounds,interpretation,as an efficient and important bridge of cross-cultural communication,plays an important role in communication between China and other countries and regions.This report is a Chinese-English(C-E)simulated simultaneous interpretation practice report,based on three guests’ speeches in 2019 UNVIEW AIo T Collaboration Summit.Guided by the Interpretive Theory,this report analyzes the interpretation and summarizes five practical strategies which can be applied in interpretation practice.The Interpretive Theory is the first systematic interpretation theory in the world of international interpretation.The extensive interpretation practice of its founder Seleskovitch plays an important role in the birth of the Interpretive Theory,so the Interpretive Theory is highly practical.According to the Interpretive Theory,interpretation has three steps: comprehension,deverbalization and reexpression.The interpreter should convey what the speaker wants to express,not the surface meaning of the language itself.Therefore,the interpreter must break the limitation of language structure and extract the meaning of sentences.In this report,based on the analysis of guests’ speeches,the interpreter summarizes five interpreting strategies and provides corresponding examples to explain them including cognitive supplement,comprehension,logical induction,omission,and inference and forecast.From this practice,the interpreter realizes that a successful completion of interpretation requires sufficient preparation before interpretation such as a large number of background surveys,the mastery of relevant knowledge,the preparation of proper nouns,etc.In addition,the interpreter hopes that the strategies summarized in this report can be helpful to the practice of interpretation in the future.
