The escort interpreting was about an people-to-people exchange in June,2016.The objects of the interpreting task were a Kenyan counselor to China and a Kenyan girl.Because of people-to-people exchange, the task was relatively informal but it was involved with spoken language.Based on the task, the report analyzes cases under the guidance of Interpretive Theory of Translation. The most difficult challenge lies in how to interpret vivid spoken language and discourse with cultural background in a natural manner.Through the analysis, the report discusses on successful interpreting tactics like removing redundant verbal signs after Deverbalization, replacing with target equivalents in certain contexts, adding explanation after Deverbalization, understanding paralanguage through Deverbalization to convey information successfully under the guidance of Interpretive Theory of Translation. In the meantime, the report explores some unsuccessful cases attributed to unfaithful interpretation, failure in anticipation, inexact interpretation in certain contexts, failure in Deverbalization interpretation. Finally, the report exemplifies some cases not fully corresponding with the principles of the theory but successful in terms of conveying information in certain contexts. The tactics are additional annotation, formalistic expression, integrating form with meaning, foreignization. The author hopes to provide guidance for interpreters in interpreting activities through the analysis on the cases in the future.
