A Report On The Translation Of Successful Models Of Community Long Term Care Services For The Elderly(Experts) From The Perspective Of Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory

With the phenomenon of rapid population aging,demands for elderly care in our country is also increasing.Western countries entered the aging society earlier,and have more experience in community care skills and models,which deserves learning and drawing lessons from for China.Therefore,it is of great significance of the translation of western community care texts.This translation practice is an excerpt from the first three subsections of chapter one of Successful Models of Community Long Term Care Services for the Elderly co-authored by Ruth Bennett and Eloise H.P.Killeffer.The book shares many successful cases of community care.The text selected in this translation practice is a typical medical text,which belongs to the translation of scientific and technological texts.This requires the translator to express and convey the original content and key information objectively and accurately.Therefore,the translator adopts Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory to guide the translation practice,focusing on the translation of vocabulary,sentence structure and texts.The translator analyses the translation of lexical level from the perspective of polysemy and terminology;the translation of syntactic level from the perspective of passive sentences and long sentences;the translation of discourse level from the perspective of logical and cultural coherence in order to better convey the communicative information of the original text to readers.In the process of translation,translators shoulder the task of cultural transmission between the two countries.The translation of this book is to spread the idea of community care and some specific development experiences to China,so that China pays more attention to aging and some western practices can be referenced to make the elderly enjoy their old age.Also,it is hoped that this translation practice can bring some inspirations to the follow-up studies and provide some references for the translation of similar texts in the future.
