A Translation Project Report Of Neonatal And Pediatric Respiratory Care:A Patient Case Study(Excerpts)

As the healthy development of children has a stake in the future of human society,people across the world have made unremitting efforts to ensure children’s physical and mental health in many fields,especially in pediatrics.There is without doubt that western countries are playing a leading role in the aspects of the theories and practical experience.However,China has been learning foreign remarkable achievements in pediatrics by translating and introducing the works of western countries.And China never ceases in improving the science in Kid’s medical field with the innovation to meet the needs of social development.This thesis is a translation report on the basis of the pediatric text,Neonatal and Pediatric Respiratory Care: a Patient Case Study,which is a scientific informational text,mainly conveying information,knowledge and opinions.Guided by the theory of communicative translation,this translation report explores the translation of words and sentences and the textual translation.Firstly,the medical words are the emphasis and difficulty of medical text translation due to the large vocabulary and polysemy,so the translator selects and extends the meaning of its general and specialized words with the reference of the relative medical parallel texts,the context and the collocation.Then,in view of preciseness,faithfulness and coherence of the medical sentences,the translator uses appropriate translation methods,like addition,omission,division and mixture,to discuss these complex long sentences.And finally,the translator analyzes the textual translation from the perspective of cohesion and coherence.Divided into five chapters,the report gives a full review to some aspects,including the task and translation process,the case analysis and so on.The first chapter describes the background and the significance of the program.The second chapter briefly introduces the text and Newmark’s communicative translation theory.The third chapter records the process from preparations,translation to revisions.The fourth chapter,as the focus of the report,discusses the translation skills of medical words and sentences as well as the textual translation methods under the guidance of the communicative translation theory.And the last chapter summarizes gains and deficiencies of this report.
