A Report On C-E Translation Of Medical Training Courseware Based On Newmark’s Text Typology Theory

Foreign medical aid is a new way of practicing public and humanism between China and other countries.Due to the impact of the epidemic,foreign medical aid has adopted a new way to be conducted in an online format.The quality of the Chinese to English translation of medical training courseware is critical to the dissemination of Chinese medical culture and its comprehension and absorption by foreign medical and healthcare recipients.This report is based on the author’s participation in the translation of courseware for the "2021 Training Course for Medical and Nursing Staff from Developing Countries" and the "2021 Seminar on Hospital Management and Operation for Cambodia",which are organized by the Human Resources Development Center of Shanxi Provincial Health Commission.This paper focuses on the translation of medical science texts,which are scientific and objective in nature.To effectively translate such texts,this study adopts Newmark’s text typology translation theory,incorporating semantic and communicative translation strategies to explore and analyze typical cases at three levels:lexical,syntactic,and discourse.At the lexical level,the author performs lexical transformations on words and phrases,while omitting complicated and redundant content to meet the reading habits of the target audience.At the syntactic level,the author uses flexible methods to adjust the order and logic of phrases,so as to enable readers to grasp the context of the translation and obtain a more realistic experience.At the discourse level,the author captures the overall concept and applies flexible transformations to four-character idioms and characteristic expressions in the discourse to the extent possible,in order to preserve their cultural connotations.Newmark’s text typology translation theory underscores the importance of translators accurately expressing the content of the original text,maintaining the text’s ecology,and enhancing the readability of the translation.This report enriches the relevant studies of Newmark’s translation theory and verifies the accurate guiding role of this translation theory in medical translation.In addition,it is hoped that the report will provide some useful references for the English translation and dissemination of Chinese medical culture,hospital management and operation,and translation for medical and nursing training,with the aim of expanding the influence and scope of Chinese medical communication and strengthening international exchange and cooperation between China and other countries.
