Under the background of globalization,countries all over the world have already formed close ties.In the continuous communication and cooperation,the role of translation has been more and more prominent,especially in the field of medicine.Translating foreign advanced medical achievements and medical knowledge into Chinese will not only help the development of medical field in China,but also help people to understand more new medical trends.This report is based on the author’s translation practice of “Medical Guidelines for Quitting Smoking”.Guided by the theory of text type,and combined with the research on medical translation by several domestic scholars,it explores the translation methods of medical texts by analyzing the cases in practice.The author’s translation material is based on a medical guide from the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.This guide mainly discusses how cancer patients can quit smoking scientifically.It has both the professionalism of medical texts and the readability of popular science texts.This report focuses on the difficulties in translating medical texts: technical terms,long sentences,complex sentences and paragraphs.In this translation practice,the translations of professional terms are based on medical dictionaries and network interpretations.Literal translation and additional translation methods have been used to deal with the names of medical institutions and diseases while transliteration methods have been used to translate some special drug names in medical texts;sequential,reverse and segmentation methods have been applied to translate long and complex sentences.The author has mainly used the method of adding conjunctions and adjusting sentences’ order in the translation of paragraphs.In practice,the author finds that these methods are frequently used in the process of medical text translation,and can convey the information of the original text accurately and completely.
