Based on one of an articles Information Technology Tools for Palliative Care for Populations in academic proceedings,Palliative Care for Chronic Cancer Patients in the Community: Global Approaches and Future Applications, which is published by Springer-Verlag,the paper discusses the problems and difficulties encountered in E-C translation.Simultaneously, the source text is thoroughly analyzed by using German functional translation theory, and the translation techniques and procedures employed are summarized. The following four sections make up the report:The introduction describes the background of the translation practice: the development of humanistic medicine and palliative care at home and abroad. Then, based on the features of the original text, the second part locks on the target readers according to the purpose of this translation activity and explains the significance of the research. The third part introduces the skopos theory applied in the practice including the current situation of medical text translation at home and abroad. It elaborates the entire translation process, which includes preparation before translation and the efforts has been made in translation as well as the summary in the fourth chapter,so that the report’s practicality can be verified. In chapter 5,it explains how to apply the translation skopos theory to appropriately choose translation methods and strategies during translation with picking a series of representative situations to illustrate it.According to the parts-to-whole logic, from the lexical to the syntactic to the discourse level, the paper examines the translation research process. It begins by analyzing the main two sorts of words, which can be classified as medical terminology, common words with medical meanings, mainly applying the methods like semantic contextualization and addition. At the syntactic level, the paper construes from the two aspects of understanding and expression with the idea of “appreciating first, then expression”,aiming the unity and harmony of the two. Therefore, under the premise of understanding the original correctly, the methods used in translation are back translation, combined and division translation, voice conversion. As for the discourse level, the purpose of the original text is focused as a fundamental of the translation. The emphasis is placed on the logic among discourses,as well as the expressiveness and the coherence of connotation.moreover, the translation of the chart is also elaborated.By referring to the language characteristics of the original text to be faithful to the original text, the author adopts the principle of accuracy and conciseness during the translation. The last part summarizes the translation practice and, through this translation practice, demonstrates the author’s main harvest as well as the shortcomings which needs to be improved in this study,it also shares author’s thoughts and reflections brought by this practice.
