Strategies Of Conference Interpreting From The Perspective Of The Skopos Theory

This report is based on the interpreter's interpreting practice in the CNC Machine Tools Proposal Conference of Yamazen Trading Company.Based on the characteristics of the material,the practical difficulties faced by the interpreter and the duty as an interpreter,the author analyzes the whole interpreting process,and summarizes the interpreting strategies adopted to cope with related problems,so as to help other interpreters to increase interpreting quality when encountering with similar issues.The author transcribes the source language and the target language to analyze the problems and strategies in the interpretation process.There are mainly three kinds of problems: terminology interpreting,semantic redundancy and the application of visual materials.This paper discusses methods to improve interpretation effect of conference interpreting from the perspective of the Skopos Theory.First,concerning terminology interpreting,the interpreter proposes the interpreting methods of literal translation,zero translation,free translation and abbreviation to ensure the accuracy of interpretation.Second,in order to solve the problem of semantic redundancy during the negotiating process,the interpreter adopts the methods of omission and combination to ensure that the information of the source language is conveyed as completely as possible.Third,in this interpreting practice,concerning the speaker's utilization of visual materials such as slides and product brochures,the interpreter explains the auxiliary application of slides and the explanatory application of the brochures in this report.This practice report is based on the interpreting practice of the interpreter.Coping with the problems of terminology interpreting,the treatment of semantic redundancy and the application of visual materials,the author puts forward suitable solutions in line with practical interpreting conditions.It is the interpreter's hope that this will inspire other interpreters faced with similar difficulties.
