Under the background of the economic globalization, interpreting is playing an important role in the field of international politics, economy and culture. However, there are not so many researches on analyzing interpreting strategies based on interpretation theory aiming to improve interpreting performance in China. Therefore, the author hopes to gain interpreting methods and make more people know the importance and strictness of diplomatic interpreting through studying interpreting strategies so as to provide theoretical basis and practice guidance for those who are going to be interpreters.The present study deeply analyzes the interpreting data of Premier Li Keqiang’s press conference by applying the theory of Vermeer’s skopos theory. The essence of the interpreting data are selected, the characters and difficulties of diplomatic interpreting are disclosed and the interpreting strategies are summarized by using the method of analysis and synthesis.From the perspective of skopos theory, the paper combines the particularity of diplomatic interpreting with interpreting theory to discuss diplomatic interpreting strategies during the Chinese-English consecutive interpreting. It firstly explains the skopos theory in details. As the core theory of functional translation theory, skopos theory emphasizes that communication is unique purpose, and choosing interpreting strategies in the position of receivers of target language. Secondly, it explains the differences of cultural background through analyzing the specific examples so as to introduce the political characteristics of diplomatic interpreting. The language of diplomatic interpreting should be precise and efficient to reach the win-win result. Finally, it explains the interpreting strategies from words and sentences, and analyzes examples of press conferences. The author hopes that it can provide some guides to interpreting activities.
