Nowadays, with the development of global economy, secondary vocational schools in China begin to pay attention to English teaching in order to provide more qualified talents for the society.Content-Based Instruction(CBI)emphasizes the combination of subject contents and language learning, which can stimulate students' learning interest and motivation, improve their knowledge level and cognitive ability, and promote the development of their language ability.Since the 1960 s,many successful cases have appeared in teaching practice of CBI abroad, and attracted the attention of researchers. At present, domestic scholars mainly focus on primary and secondary schools, higher vocational colleges and universities, but little on secondary vocational English teaching.Based on the theories of CBI,this study explores the teaching model of CBI for secondary vocational students' English teaching, and verifies its teaching effectiveness through empirical research. This research is based on the previous research results of CBI and related theories, combines with the author's teaching practice, and aims to study the following questions: 1)What is the effect of CBI on improving students' learning interest and motivation? 2)What is the effect of applying CBI concept to guide teaching on improving students' learning performance? In order to answer the research questions, this study selected 32 Business English majors of Grade 2017 in Dongguan Nanbo Vocational and Technical School(DNVTS)as subjects, and conducted two tests and one questionnaire and interview respectively for the experimental class after 12 weeks of teaching experiment.According to the results of the pre-test,the experimental class was divided into three groups:Low-score Group,Medium-score Group and High-score Group.Nine subjects were randomly selected for interviews to explore their attitudes and opinions on CBI.Through the comparison and analysis of questionnaires and two tests(pre-test and post test),as well as the interview results, the following conclusions were drawn: 1)CBI could stimulate students' interest and motivation in learning.2)CBI could improve students' learning performance effectively. Finally, according to the results of the study, several pedagogical implications were listed out.First, compared with the traditional English teaching,CBI can stimulate the students' interest, motivation and attitude in English learning.Secondly, teachers should choose appropriate learning materials for students.Lastly, the contents of English teaching in secondary vocational schools should be situation-based to meet the needs of students' future career development.
