This dissertation is a report on the translation project which focuses on the first part(Introduction; Frames, domains, spaces:the organization of conceptual structure) of the classic linguistic masterpiece, Cognitive Linguistics. The chosen part mainly discusses frame semantics, full of terms and complex sentence construction. Through this translation practice, the translator expects to obtain linguistic knowledge, improve the level of translation and train the willpower.Difficulties in this translation lie in the fact that the source text involves numerous linguistic terms, which needs a lots of background knowledge of linguistics. Besides, there are many long sentences and passive voices in the source text. The project, therefore, is a challenge to the translator’s grammatical knowledge and logical thinking. In light of features of the source text, Katharina Reiss’s theory of text typology is employed as the theoretical framework during the whole translation of the project. Based on its requests in translating informative text, the project is strictly guided under the theory and meanwhile combined with various strategies for translation, such as division, perspective transformation method and so on.It proves that Katharina Reiss’s theory of text typology is of great significance and practicability in translation. The translator realized that appropriate theoretical guidance, good command of bilingual language, learning ability of relevant knowledge, together with the calmness and patience in the face of difficulties are all indispensable in translation.
