Complex sentence plays a connecting role in Chinese language units,connecting up single sentences and continuing chapters,which is an important item in Chinese grammar.Causal complex sentence is one of the complex sentence categories in which it is used more frequently.The predecessors’ researches on the ontology of causal complex sentences have been fruitful and diverse,however,few studies on causal complex sentences have been conducted in the textbook of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Textbooks serve as an important reference for foreign students to learn Chinese,and the scientificity and practicality of their preparation play a decisive role in teaching effectiveness.Therefore,this article intends to investigate and study the marked explanatory causal complex sentences in one of the popular textbooks in Chinese teaching,The Road to Success,analyzing its arrangement in texts,notes,and exercises,making related teaching designs,and hoping to provide some convenience for the teaching of causal complex sentences.This article is composed of six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.It includes the significance of topic selection,research review,and research objects and methods.The research review section mainly analyzes and summarizes the previous research of causal complex sentences,including the ontological research of causal complex sentences,the study of Chinese as a foreign language,and the study of textbook layout.The second chapter is the investigation and analysis of the marked explanatory causal complex sentences in the text of The Road to Success.This article divides the textbooks into three stages:elementary,intermediate,and advanced,and then classifies and quantifies the marked explanatory causal complex sentences in each volume of the textbook.The third chapter is the investigation and analysis of marked explanatory causal complex sentences in the notes and exercises of The Road to Success.Annotation analysis focuses on its overall arrangement,the rationality of the content of Chinese and English annotations,and exampled sentences.Practice analysis focuses on two aspects:the amount of questions and the types of questions.The fourth chapter summarizes the arrangement of marked explanatory causal complex sentences in the textbook The Road to Success.Combining the advantages and disadvantages of the layout,we propose reasonable suggestions for the layout of marked explanatory causal complex sentences and conjunctions in teaching Chinese as a foreign language textbooks,and then we make some teaching reflection.The fifth chapter selects some representative causal complex sentence patterns to carry out teaching designs,with a view to providing some help for the practice of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The sixth chapter summarizes the content of the full text,analyzes its shortcomings and puts forward the author’s expectations.
