This translation project, with the title of Standard for Information Model Data Storage of Four-electric Railway Engineering, consists of eight chapters, among which the author is responsible for translating six chapters(12,000 characters). After completing the translation, the author combed and reflected the translation process, and wrote this corresponding translation report accordingly. After a brief introduction to the translation project, this report illuminates its practical significance, and then analyzes the linguistic features of the source text in detail from the aspects of vocabulary, syntax and discourse. On this basis, this report integrates some commonly-seen procedures in the practical operation during translation, containing the collection of parallel texts, the selection of search engines and translation tools, the preparation and management of the term base and translation memory, text proofreading, quality assurance and desktop publishing(DTP)etc.,probing into the significant role of applying computer aided translation(CAT)technologies and concepts(taking MemoQ as an example)in translating the railway engineering texts. In the third chapter of this report, the author illustrates how the CAT tool MemoQ can significantly improve the translator's translation efficiency when it comes to the efficient and convenient search of information, the reasonable and systematical management of terminology, the rapid and accurate output of the translation, and the clear and distinct quality assurance of the translation.Apart from this, what particularly needs to be pointed out is that this report consolidates the literature review and explains the theories with examples concerning CAT technology and its relevant concepts like terminology, translation memory as well as collaborative translation.Through case study with concrete examples, chapter four in this report summarizes and discusses the common features of railway engineering text and its difficulties and problems that need special attention during translation, with Nida's functional equivalence being the theoretical support.Guided by the functional equivalence theory, the author explores the principles, strategies and standards of translation applicable to railway engineering texts.By presenting some of the gains and lessons from the translation practice through a complete and detailed description to the translation process and a summary of the common problems, the author hopes to offer some references and enlightenment to those translators who aspire to engage in railway engineering translation with the help of the CAT technology.
