In the field of cultural exchange between China and the West in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, missionaries who came to China as one of the most important groups were valued by the academic community. The German Jesuit Johann Adam Schall von Bell(1592-1666),who served as an official representative in both Ming and Qing Dynasties, had more contacts with the supreme rulers during the two dynasties' changes, especially with the Qing Emperor Shunzhi. The close exchange of them is a good story in the history of Sino-Western cultural exchanges. As the few missionaries who come to China with such experience,Schall von Bell and Emperor Shunzhi's historical details of the exchanges and missions are often highly valued by researchers in related fields.Schall von Bell's works in China are mostly written in Chinese in order to spread the culture of science, religion, society and other fields in China. His foreign language works mainly disseminate personal experiences and Chinese social observations to Europe. One of the representative documents is Schall von Bell's Latin book Historica relation, progressu fidei orthodoxae in regno chinensiper Missionarios Societatis Jesu,Anno 1581 usque ad Annum 1669.This document focuses on Schall von Bell's personal experience and perspectives, and details his entire mission to China, and emphasizes the historical details of his communication and mission with Emperor Shunzhi. This study takes this as the research object, selects relevant chapters for translation, and annotates them. The introduction part of Chapter 1 focuses on the significance of this topic and combs the relevant research, and then puts forward research ideas and innovation. After that, the research object of Schall von Bell and his core literature are introduced, and the importance of chapters about the relationship between Emperor Shunzhi and Schall von Bell and missionary activities is explained. In Chapters 3 and 4,the fifteenth and sixteenth chapters of this document are translated and annotated respectively. Finally, the conclusion and relevant findings are elaborated. In this way, through the proofreading and supplementing of relevant historical details, the historical facts of the exchange between Schall von Bell and Shunzhi Emperor were clarified.Although Schall von Bell and Shunzhi had close contacts and received honors, what contradicted this good relationship was that they ruled the highest The missionary's mission ended in failure. This study found that Schall von Bell personally attributed it to God's will and external factors. On the one hand,it is a kind of personal contact,on the one hand,it is a contribution to the astronomical calendar, which brings it glory and honor, but it cannot finally achieve the purpose of teaching to the ruling class. In any case, from the perspective of Chinese and Western cultural exchanges, this historical fact is undoubtedly of great value and far-reaching significance.
