A Report On The Translation Of Geology:A Complete Introduction(Chapter Eleven)

The source of this translation practice is an excerpt from the eleventh chapter of the book Geology: A Complete Introduction.The book provides an overview of geology in many aspects,such as seismic origin,plate structure,geologic hazard and volcanic explosion.The selected chapter is mainly about the formation process,exploration methods and mining techniques of physical resources in geology.This translation report consists of four parts: translation task description,translation process description,case analysis and translation practice summary.It can be categorized as popular science with clear logic and strong objectivity,being suitable as translation material.Meanwhile,the difficulties encountered in the translation practice can be divided into three levels,including vocabulary,sentence and discourse.The author mainly adopts literal translation,along with the translation techniques such as conversion in part of speech,supplementation and sentence reorganization.This report is a review and summary of translation practice.During this practice,the author has improved translation of technical texts,summarized the general skills of geology translation texts,acquired the basic knowledge about physical resources in geology,and learned how to solve the difficulties encountered in the translation.At present,there are relatively a few literatures on geological translation in China.The author hopes that more and more translators can devote themselves to this field so as to help domestic geologists participate in international exchanges and cooperation better.
