With the revolutionary technology,geology has become an absorbing science.Physical Geology,holding the geological knowledge of the earth,but written in plain words,proves an excellent material,which makes its translation worth the effort.Physical Geology,as a book of introducing the discoveries of this planet and better ways of using its resources,covers numerous geological terminologies and some features of technical texts,such as passive sentences,complicated nominalization and long sentences,which bring obstacles to the translator.Physical Geology,according to Reiss,is a kind of informative text associated with facts description.It is advised to translate it plainly and explicitly.So,conversion is applied to settle the difficulties of nominalization and passive sentences,and division and sequence adjustment to handle long sentences.As for terminologies,the translator sorts out their equivalents to avoid unfamiliarity and raise readability and for those without accurate equivalents,after comprehending their context,are translated accordingly.From this translation project,the translator gains insights into geology and translation work.To begin with,the knowledge of special subjects should be raised to have a full understanding of the ST.Moreover,theories must be applied to confirm a clear translation strategy.What's more,the way of contrastive analysis of features between English and Chinese should always be taken into consideration to get rid of the disruption of the mother language,and flexible techniques ought to be put to good use so as to show a faithful and fluent translation.Last but not the least,a competent bilingual ability is supposed to be chased to better the translation.
