In recent years, stratified class teaching model has been gradually applied to the developed areas and it also appears in Yunnan province in the application of China standards of English and the coming new college entrance examination. It has aroused great interest of scholars, but few studies aim at exploring the relationship between the stratified class teaching model and students' English learning self-efficacy.Therefore,based on the theoretical framework of self-efficacy by American psychologist Bandura and combined with qualitative and quantitative methods, four classes(class A1,A2,B1 and B2)of Senior One from Kunming No.3 Senior High School(160 students)were investigated. The study answered three research questions:(1)What's the general self-efficacy of students before and after the stratified class teaching model?(2)What's students' English learning self-efficacy before and after the new teaching model?(3)Are there any significant differences in English learning self-efficacy among different classes? If so,what are they? Questionnaires were distributed respectively before and after the stratification(three months apart).SPSS22.0 were used to obtain the study results.Firstly, there is no significant difference in students' general self-efficacy before and after they were layered.Secondly, the students' English learning self-efficacy is higher after the stratification, which proves that this model can positively improve English learning self-efficacy.Besides,Class A2 has the highest English learning self-efficacy,Class A1 has the second,Class B1 has the third and Class B2 has the lowest. As for the types of efficacy in four different classes,it can be seen that the students' English learning self-efficacy in reading ability is strongest, followed by speaking, listening and writing. The research also found that gender differences can affect students' English learning self-efficacy.The pretest and post-test of male's English learning self-efficacy are both higher than those of females',indicating that males have higher English learning self-efficacy.
