The National English Curriculum Standard for General High Schools issued in 2017 claims that, the main purpose of high school English curriculum is to establish a new teaching concept for foreign language education,to make curriculum provision and curriculum content with features of contemporary time, fundamentality and selectivity, and to establish curriculum objective system. It has become an important part of senior high school English teaching that attention be paid to students' individual differences and students are taught according to their aptitude. However, students' individual differences in the class are objective existence. With the deepening of knowledge difficulty in senior high school and the increasing differences of students' English knowledge level,it is difficult to give equal consideration to students of different levels in the traditional class teaching system. Therefore, stratified teaching has been widely used.In recent years, learning guidance plan has attracted more and more attention. Most teachers choose learning guidance plan as a teaching tool to cultivate students' autonomous learning ability. In order to cultivate the autonomous ability of the students at different levels in the same class, combination of the stratified teaching with the learning guidance plan, that is stratified learning plan, should be made in English teaching so that students at each level can improve their autonomous learning ability. This study conducted a one-semester experiment in two ordinary classes in senior one of a high school in Xuchang,Henan Province. The research questions are as follows: What is the influence of English stratified learning plan on students' autonomous learning ability? How does it influence the autonomous learning ability on students of different learning levels? What are the advantages and disadvantages of stratified learning plan from the perspective of autonomous learning? There were149 research subjects,73 of whom were experimental class and 76 were control class. In the experimental class, the students were divided into three levels: A,B and C.Before the English lessons in experimental class, the students are given a stratified learning plan, while the control class used the traditional teaching method. The data were mainly from questionnaires, interviews and classroom observation.Through the combination of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, the research results were analyzed. The major findings are as follows:(1)Before the use of the English stratifiedlearning plan, the experimental class students' autonomous learning ability is relatively weak, especially in class preparation. After the use of the English stratified learning plan, the experimental class students' autonomous learning ability has been significantly improved;(2)The autonomous learning ability of students with higher knowledge level and lower knowledge level has significantly improved, and the English stratified learning plan had the greatest impact on the students at these two levels;students with average knowledge level had no significant improvement in their autonomous learning ability after using English stratified learning plan.(3)The stratified learning plan can improve students' autonomous learning ability to a certain extent, changing students' traditional dependent learning,so that the students at each level can be developed. However, there is no more precise criteria for students' stratification, and it is more difficult for teachers to write the stratified learning plan,so it is difficult to accurately grasp the learning ability of students at each level, and needs can not meet for each student.Implications for the use of the stratified learning plan in English teaching are as follows: Teachers need to persistently improve their own teaching and knowledge skills to lay the foundation for the preparation of stratified learning plan.Teachers should also observe and understand the learning needs of different students at different levels, and constantly adjust the form of stratified learning plan to make it more suitable for the development of students' own ability. This study has achieved the expected goal, yet due to limited experimental time, and the research on students' English autonomous learning ability needs to be further explored.
