Nowadays,the concept which respects students’ individual differences and personality development as well as moving toward equal opportunities should be indispensable for educators.Under the background of advocating quality-oriented education,the disadvantages of class teaching system are becoming more and more obvious,which is far from the concept of "student-oriented" and developing students’ personality.As a reform of the traditional teaching system,optional class and stratified teaching system plays a good role in paying attention to the development of students’ personality and stimulating their interest in learning.Junior middle school is a special period in which polarization is easily formed and students are trapped.Therefore,how to give full play to the advantages of optional classes and stratified teaching system so as to realize the transformation of students with English learning difficulties,to narrow the gap of polarization,and truly implement the "student-oriented" quality education,has become an important content of this study.The author takes Zhongshan Z Junior High School as the research subject,conducts a field study on two B classes in Grade 9 for stratified teaching experiment which lasts for one-semester(4-month),including 92 students.By referring to the practical theories and experience of predecessors,taking "student-centered" and "multiple intelligence" as the main theories,questionnaire survey and interview method are adopted to explore three questions:Firstly,how to implement the teaching under optional class and stratified teaching system.Secondly,the transformation effect of stratified teaching in optional classes on students with learning difficulties.Thirdly,the strategy of transforming the students with difficulty in English learning under optional class and stratified teaching system.The study finds that the stratified teaching mode of Z Junior High School has an obvious and positive effect on improving students’ English performance,which reflects the student-oriented concept of respecting students’ personality development.In addition,the author also analyzes the problems in the implementation process of class stratification,and discusses the constructive strategies and teaching suggestions for transforming students with learning difficulties:Help to establish a clear learning objectives and motivation is the premise,which according to the physical and mental characteristics of students;The core is to pay attention to moral education and psychological guidance,changing the old educational thoughts,renewing the teaching ideas and improving the comprehensive quality of teachers.Focusing on learning method guidance,mentoring and group cooperation is the way;Forming a home-school partnership is the key.
