This report is based on the practice of translating Ecolinguistics: Language,Ecology and the Stories We Live By(2015),wrtitten by Professor Arran Stibbe from University of Gloucestershire, who is one of the most outstanding scholars in ecolinguistics. This monograph represents the latest progress in ecolinguistics,a new branch of linguistics which has been developed in recent decades by integrating ecology and linguistics. The core of this book is the relationship between ecology and language, and it is a pioneering endeavour to explore the framework of the linguistic analysis of ecological discourse and ecological consciousness with abundant examples. That is why the translator has decided to translate this book. The translator has chosen Chapters 8 and 9 of the book as the source text of her translation. The purpose of translating this book is to convey the knowledge and information of ecolinguistics to native Chinese readers,to promote the research and development of ecolinguistics in China, and to make ordinary readers aware of the impact of language on ecology. The guiding theory of this translation project is the Skopos Theory and the process of the translaton is guided by the three principles of the theory--the Skopos Principle, the Coherence Principle, and the Fidelity Principle.Through this translation practice, the translator's main gains are as follows: firstly, she has strengthened her translation ability and gained a deeper understanding of translation practice;secondly, she has had a better understanding of the characteristics of academic texts, namely, abundant terminologies, abstract words and long sentences with complex structure but with clear logic;thirdly, she has benefited greatly from reading academic papers and books on ecolinguistics. The translation report and the translated book chapters will provide references for the translation of academic texts on ecolinguistics and promote the readers' interest in it.It's also hoped that they will be more conscious of the impact of discourse on the ecological environment in which we live, thus attach more importance to the ecological protection.
