A Report On The Translation Of Ecolinguistics:Language,Ecology And Stories We Live By(Chapter 1-2)

With the spreading of economic globalization,consumerism gradually steps into people's lives.People have paid dear price to consumerism for deteriorating of ecological environment.With people's understanding going deeper and the research of ecological issues making progress,the ecological issues have been studied together with many other subjects instead of being studied separately.Ecolinguistics is a combination of ecology and linguistics,aiming to deal with ecological issues from a linguistic perspective.The translator chooses the first and the second chapter from Ecolinguistics:Language,Ecology and the Stories We Live By,which was written by Associate Professor Arran Stibbe of the University of Gloucester in the United Kingdom.This book explores how the "stories we live by" affects our relationship with the ecological system from a linguistic perspective.In light of the academic features of the translated text,this report is mainly guided by Peter Newmark's semantic and communicative translation.Starting with the above theory,the translator adopts different translation strategies according to different contexts and applies some translation skills to ensure the quality of translations.This report is divided into four parts: an introduction to translation background;an introduction to translation process;case study and report summary.The translator hopes that through the translation and introduction of this book,people can understand discourse's non-negligible influence on the ecological environment we depend on so as to to further enhance their environmental awareness.
