Global Food Security Index 2017,a report with 130,000 words on the Economist Intelligence Unit,is the source text of the translation project, including five parts, that is,introduction, key findings, global food security index, natural resources&resilience, and conclusion. It measures and ranks 113 countries' food security from four indicators, affordability, availability, quality&safety, and natural resources&resilience. It appeals to people in the world to care about food security, and to governments, the private sector,non-profit organisations and other stakeholders around the world to make collaborative efforts to maintain global food security.A specific analysis of translation cases is made from the perspectives of words, sentences and discourses.Translation of abbreviation, amplification and conversion of part of speech are used to strengthen the readability of the target text in translating words;the application of sequencing, division and conversion is to translate complex and passive sentences;adding numerals and conjunctions is for the cohesion and coherence of translation. The translation project is an experience of great value.A translator should know something about everything and everything about something. In translating an informative text, the background and feature of the source text should be known in advance, and dictionaries and pieces of writing are needed to acquire the true meaning of some special terms for accuracy.Translation should confofm to the context, and the expression should keep in line with idiomatic ways of target language. The project is wished to provide a reference for other related translation studies.
