The thesis is the report on translation for chapter five and six of Mummy Told Me Not to Tell whose writer is a famous novelist Cathy Glass in the UK,and she is also a social carer with 25 years of fostering experience.The novel is written in narration between Cathy and Reece,the adopted child.The translator selects the Chapter 5 and 6;which mainly describe the first time that Reece came to Cathy's home and represent his bad behavior and how Cathy deeply looks into and fully understands the cause which results in Reece's miserable suffering and abnormal behavior then finally help Reece rectify his conduct and language and get rid of the past and move to a next phase of life.The paper starts from the perspective of Nida's functional equivalence theory,together with examples analysis of important words and long sentences.The translation report is divided into four parts:the first part:introduction of translation project including the background,the author,and research significance;the second part:translation procedure,including the preparation before translation,difficulties during translation,and conclusion after translation;the third part:cases with the guidance of functional equivalence theory including words and long sentences;the fourth part:summarization of experience.
