Nowadays, due to the rapid development of science and technology, automatic production technology has been more and more widely used in industrial production. The development of industrial robots has effectively improved the efficiency of industrial production, and at the same time improved the quality of products. At present, the iterative and time-consuming process of finger design can not meet the requirements of agile manufacturing. Therefore, finger design automation plays a significant role in the competitiveness of the robotic automation in the agile market. This translation task is an E-C translation of a foreign literature on robot finger design automation. The translation of the literature belongs to the translation of scientific and technological texts, whose translation requirements can accurately convey the professional knowledge of automated texts. In light of that more technical term and long difficult sentences in automation texts, the author makes use of Nida's functional equivalence theory to translate it from English to Chinese. The author makes a detailed analysis of the problems encoutered in translation from the perspectives of vocabulary, syntax and discourse, such as the translation of vocabulary, the conversion of passive sentences to active sentences, the translation of attributive clauses, the handling of logical and cohesive relations, etc. In view of these problems, the author adopts conversion method, ellipsis method and supplement method to make the translation conforms to the Chinese expression habits, thus realizing functional equivalence. The author hopes that by writing this translation practice report and summarizing the problems and coping strategies encountered in the process of translation,it will help to improve the translator's translation-level,enhance the importance of scientific English translation, and thus improve the degree of specialization of English.
