With the strengthening of reform and opening-up of China and economic globalization,Chinese companies are actively going out, expanding the scope of exports and the international market. Many companies have Chinese and English company profiles. As an international language,English plays an important role in the C-E translation of company profiles. However, the translation quality of these company profiles varies.A qualified and effective company profile has an informative and vocative function, which helps the company establish a good image, increase its reputation and stimulate consumers’ desire to buy products. Therefore,it is necessary to study the C-E translation strategy of company profiles.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, this thesis takes the C-E translation of export-oriented company profiles in Liaoning Province as an example to analyze the problems encountered in the C-E translation of company profiles and the strategies used in translation. This thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter One is the introduction, which introduces research background, research purpose &significance, research methods, and its structure.Chapter Two is a literature review, introducing the origin and development of functional equivalence theory, its development and application in China, and previous research.Chapter Three is a general introduction to export-oriented company profiles, including its definition and three functions of company text, and analyzes differences between Chinese and English company profiles from three aspects: linguistic style, cultural values, and textual structure.Chapter Four is the focus of the thesis.Based on the theory of functional equivalence, the author analyzes how to achieve meaning equivalence and style equivalence of Chinese and English company profiles in terms of vocabulary, syntax, text, and style: at the lexical level, literal translation, and free translation are used to achieve equivalence;at the syntactic level, shifting and sentence adaption are used to achieve syntactic equivalence;at the text level, pronouns and conjunctions are used to achieve contextual coherence;in terms of style, rhetoric, parallel structure to achieve style equivalence. In this thesis, the author finds that the translator can accurately express the information of the source text only based on a full understanding of the source language. In the process of achieving functional equivalence, methods such as restructuring, shifting, and omission methods can be used to make the translation more suitable for the target language reader’s habits.Chapter Five concludes the major findings and proposes the limitations of the study.
