A Report On The C-E Translation Of Patent Abstracts Under The Guidance Of Communicative Translation Theory

Nowadays,economic competition among countries increasingly depends on the level of scientific and technological innovation.As an important part of technological innovation,patent technology,which is essential for patent technique promotion,has gradually received more attention and brought both opportunities and great challenges to translators.Newmark,as a renowned British translator,proposes communicative translation theory that attempts to make use of some theories of modern linguistic science to describe and solve practical problems in the translation process,having made a great impact on the translation field.This practice report is completed under the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation theory,which aims to offer appropriate translation methods and strategies for improving the quality and efficiency of patent abstract translation based on communicative theory.This translation practice report mainly consists of the following contents.Chapter One introduces briefly the translation project.Chapter Two describes the translation process,including the understanding of the source language text,the expression of the target language and the quality monitoring the task.The third chapter makes literature review,which is mainly about the application of Newmark's communicative theory to patent translation.The fourth chapter uses case studies to analyze the difficulties and solutions of patent abstract translation,term expressions and different applications of compound sentences and passive voice sentences.The fifth chapter summarizes the deficiencies and reflections,and then puts forward relevant suggestions.In addition,in translation practice,the author recognizes that patent abstract translation has strict requirements for structure and wording.Accordingly,translators should pay attention to the inherent logic and scientific nature of abstracts,carry out deep thinking and full reflection,accurately and objectively translate abstract texts,and can actively summarize problems.At the same time,if the translator has no firm Chinese and English knowledge framework,the targeted text will probably contain many mistakes.Therefore,deepening and expanding the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary is also an indispensable part of the translation process.
