Report On C-E Translation Of Patent Abstract Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

With the increase of people's awareness,more and more inventors and enterprises recognize the importance of patent application.Patent application document often includes four parts:abstract,patent specification,claim,and drawing.The abstract provides a brief summarization of the invention so that the target reader can know its technical content.Therefore,it plays a vital role in patent search and application.In this report,the writer will analyze the strategies adopted during the translation of patent abstract base on Vermeer's Skopos theory.According to writer's patent abstract translation experience in Nanjing Yunzaishangque Information Technology Co.,Ltd.,this report provides a detailed introduction of task background,translation process,text features and translation strategies.The function and object of the translated text are explained.Based on the explanation,examples are provided for analyzing translation strategies under the guidance of skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.With regard to skopos rule,the translator should pay attention to singular and plural forms,terminology accuracy,division method and so on.As for coherence rule,the translator should learn to use cohesion,avoid ambiguity and analyze long sentences so as to make the translated text be clear in logic.According to fidelity rule,the translator should consider the translation of some special expressions and arrangement of sentence structure.The writer hopes that this report can provide solutions to solve some problems and difficulties in patent abstract translation,and provide some translation strategies.
