A Report On The Escort Interpretation Of Chinese Cultural Lectures For American High School Students

Learning a certain kind of language and culture is a helpful way to build a communication bridge between two countries.“Chinese Bridge”,a cultural exchange activity,is a useful learning platform for foreign Chinese-lovers.2017 Chinese Bridge—Summer Camp for American High School Students of Confucius Institute,unfolding the regional characteristics of Harbin with a rich and colorful culture activities,enabled American students to learn Chinese,experience traditional Chinese culture and enjoy the lasting charm of ancient China at the same time.Taking the inheritance of the Chinese culture as its mission,the summer camp provides not only a significant window to show ancient civilizations and traditional arts,but also an important method in which national spirits have been developed and national memories have been passed on.From July 17^thh to 31^st,2017,the author worked as an interpreter for American high school students summer camp in Harbin.Besides interpreting work,the author also assisted the local tour guide to handle relevant matters,and followed up the whole team’s issues in all aspects involving clothes,food,shelter,and transportation.Mainly based on classroom teaching and interpreting examples of Chinese culture lectures such as paper-cutting and Chinese knot,the author accomplished this practical report after summarizing and analyzing in this task,.This report consists of four chapters.Chapter One,Task Introduction,introduces to the background,features,requirements and significance of the interpretation task.Chapter Two,Process Description,is divided into three phases:preparation before interpreting,interpreting process,and summary after interpreting.Preparation before interpreting contains preparation for knowledge,terminology,parallel texts,psychology and theory involved.Interpreting process covers process description of interpretation and contingency plans for emergencies.Summary after interpreting focuses on assessment from the client,the interpreting receivers and the interpreter.Chapter Three,Interpreting Difficulties and Case Analysis,as the core of the report,takes the typical cases in the practice as the research objects,and focuses on the interpreting solutions of characteristic culture,disposal of memory difficulties and avoidance of pragmatic failures.After analyzing and researching,the author puts forward interpreting strategies and coping methods under the guidance of the Interpreting Theory.Chapter 4,Conclusion,dwells on the valuable experience,gains and related thoughts in the practice.The author summarizes the professional knowledge and qualities of escort interpreters by making a reflection on the failures and difficulties in interpretation process,hoping to provide useful references to deal with relevant interpreting difficulties.
