This report is based on the author's personal interpreting experiences on the Second Australian Elite Schools Information Conferencehosted by Harbin Pattison English on February 24 th in 2016.The task includes a consecutive interpretation for the representatives who attended the communication meeting form Australian schools and an escort interpreting for the guests.After finishing the interpretation,the author listened to the recordings again and translated it into different version required.This report introduces the background of the interpreting task,the client requirements and the task descriptions.Then the author analyzessome problems encountered in the interpreting process and finds that in addition to the responsibility of delivering meaning,the interpreter should also serve as a bridge between Chinese and foreigners,actively involved in the conversations and bring his/her subjective initiative.A conclusion is drawn that an interpreter should have five qualities,including the subjective awareness as an interpreter,lexical competence,simplifying the target language,expressing ability in Chineseand the quick response to emergency.The author puts forward some suggestions according to the analysis and research on the qualities required.Finally,the author evaluatesthe performance in practice,and hopes that interpreters will realize the significance of the qualities that they need and that these measures should be helpful to them.
