A Practice Report On The Escort Interpreting At The Jilin Provincial Wine Culture Museum

Against the background of the Belt and Road Initiative,Chinese Baijiu culture ushers in a great era.It is an important part of Chinese food culture.The museum of Chinese Baijiu culture collects and displays cultural treasures of liquor through the ages,which has aroused the interest of the foreign friends.After the interpreting service provided by the author for the Ukrainian student at the Jilin Provincial Wine Culture Museum,the author recorded the 100-minute interpreting practice and transcribed it into text as the corpus to write this interpreting practice report.A great number of glossaries and parallel texts on the theme of Chinese Baijiu culture has been collected before the task.Based on research achievements of interpreting at home and abroad,the text is analyzed in detail,with difficulties being generalized into three types,namely,culture-loaded words,idioms and rhetorical devices.Based on the three rules of Skopos theory: the Skopos Rule,the Coherence Rule and the Fidelity Rule,three corresponding strategies are used to analyze the interpreting practice,namely,amplification,paraphrase and omission.With the help of interpreting strategies,some typical examples from the interpreting work are selected as the object of evaluation to show the significant role of Skopos theory in interpreting practice.Under the guidance of the three rules of Skopos theory,the author defines the objectives of escort interpreting,which can effectively ensure the quality of escort interpreting.It is hoped that it can be beneficial for the interpreters’ interpreting work in the future.
