As a part of literary works,fictions are increasingly valued by literary enthusiasts in the 21 st century.With the rapid development of Chinese economy,people’s living standard has been constantly improved.As a spiritual product,it can not only enrich the literary works market,but can also provide domestic readers with excellent literature of different styles,further broaden their horizons and understanding of the literary works of western countries and the writing style of western writers.And as for Chinese writers may learn from foreign writers.The practical task is to translate the two short stories “The burglar” and “Likes”published by the Chinese American female writer Sarah Shun-lien Bynum in The New Yorker.Based on these two stories,this report describes my preparatory work before the translation,the translation process and translation experience.In line with the stylistic features of short story,communicative translation theory are used in the translation process,literal translation,free translation,addition and subtraction are adopted.Other problems and solutions encountered in the translation process are also listed and discussed.This translation practice report enables readers to appreciate translation text at all levels,and to understand the conditions of the American society,also verify the significance of communicative translation theory in guidance of translation practice.
