Migration, a short story by the famous Chinese contemporary writer Wang Zengqi, successfully portrays a character in hard times - Gao Beiming, a Chinese teacher, who appears upright and incorruptible, proud and aloof and treats people with sincerity. Devoted to his career he works hard for his whole life. However, all his life he regrets he never realized his aspirations. The author reveals his educational ideas and the pursuit of life through the image of this outstanding character. In the light of Newmark’s Text Typology Theory, this report analyzes the stylistic characteristics and linguistic characteristics of the source text, discusses the difficulties encountered in the translation practice, selects proper translation methods to solve these problems, namely translation of the title, the school anthem, the four-character expressions and the culturally-loaded expressions, and concludes with comments on the experience gained from this translation practice. This translation practice reflects that it is of great importance for a translator to know relevant translation theories and translation skills well. In addition, the translator should have a sound language base and a spirit of striving for perfection.
