Marx believes that sociality is the fundamental characteristics of man,not only do all activities occur in the society,but also you can’t understand people without society.In this sense,society is the essence of human beings.Marx’s thought about human’s social nature has an important theoretical position in his philosophical system.He has different expressions of this idea in his writings at different times.In "criticism of philosophy of Hegel," Marx called man a social existence;In the 1844 manuscript of economic philosophy,Marx regarded the "people of society" as "real people",and from the perspective of “labor”,he discussed the essence of social people.In "the theses on Feuerbach",Marx explicitly stated that "the essence of man was not the abstract object inherent in a single person,but in its actuality,it was the sum of all social relations".From the perspective of "practice",he discussed the social nature of human.In the German ideology,Marx clarified the social nature of man from the perspective of "production".Different scholars have different views on the essence of Marx,and it includes that "man is the supreme essence of man","free and conscious labor is the essence of man" and "practice is the essence of man".According to Marx’s related discussion,we believe that human nature is sociality and sociality constitutes human’s realistic nature.Therefore,we can understand the exact meaning of labor and practice as human nature.In the first chapter,this paper explains the formation process of Marx’s social essence thought by combing relevant texts.In the second Chapter,this paper expresses the theoretical origin of Marx’s theory of social essence by examining Marx’s criticism of Feuerbach,Hegel and others,this paper further clarifies the establishment process of Marx’s social essence thought.In the third chapter,this paper discusses "the basic connotation of the social essence of Marx" by examining the concrete manifestation of human’s social nature in labor,production and practice.In the fourth chapter,this paper analyzes "the theoretical status of Marx’s social nature thought" by examining its core position in Marx’s view of nature,human nature and social history.In the fifth chapter,this paper further reasserts the social essence thought of Marx and its theoretical significance.
