Objective:To observe the clinical effect of needle therapy(bi-taiyang,bi-cuanzhu)combined with traditional Chinese medicine(sophora, pueraria lobata, peppermint)fumigation on allergic conjunctivitis in primary school students based on indexes about ocular symptoms(itchy eyes, tears, photophobia, foreign body sensation),signs(conjunctival congestion, conjunctival edema secretions). Methods:A randomized, positive drug control, parallel group design and open label multicenter clinical research method were used.Based on including and exclusion criteria,82 patients(164 eyes)were selected to participate in this experiment. These patients were all diagnosed with allergic conjunctivitis from the eye clinic of affiliated hospital of Chengdu University of TCM during March 2019 to January 2020.They were numbered by their order of visit and then divided randomly into three groups by the random number table method: experimental group 1(group A),experimental group 2(group B),control group(group C).They were children between the age of 4 and 14.After the experiment,8 patients(16 eyes)were eliminated and 74 patients(148 eyes)entered the count finally. That was: 25 patients(50 eyes)in group A,25 patients(50 eyes)in group B and 24(48 eyes)people in group C.The group A was treated with the azelastine hydrochloride eye drops and needle therapy(bi-taiyang,bi-cuanzhu)combined with traditional Chinese medicine(sophora, pueraria lobata, peppermint)fumigation; The group B was treated with the azelastine hydrochloride eye drops and traditional Chinese medicine(sophora, pueraria lobata, peppermint)fumigation; The group C was treated only with azelastine hydrochloride eye drops. This course of treatment last for 2 weeks.Indexes about symptoms(eye itching, streaming eyes, photophobia, foreign body sensation)and signs(eye secretions, conjunctival edema, congestion)of patients were observed before and after treatment.Results:(1)Before treatment, difference of subjects' age, gender, eyesight, intraocular pressure, ocular symptoms(itchy eyes, tears, photophobia, foreign body sensation),signs(conjunctival congestion, conjunctival edema, secretions)between the three groups was not statistically significant(P > 0.05).(2)After treatment, the differences in eye itching, tearing, photophobia, conjunctival congestion, conjunctival edema, secretion among the three groups were statistically significant(P < 0.05).In the term of foreign body sensation, the difference between group A and the group B was statistically significant(P < 0.05),while the difference between the group C was not statistically significant(P > 0.05).(3)Comparison of symptoms improvement after treatment in pairs among the 3 groups: The difference in tearing, photophobia, foreign body sensation were statistically significant(P < 0.05).The group A worked best.In terms of eye itch, the differences between the group A and the group B,the group A and the group C were statistically significant(P < 0.05),while the difference between the group B and the group C was not statistically significant(P > 0.05).(4)Comparison of signs improvement after treatment in pairs among the 3 groups: The difference in conjunctival congestion between the group A and the group C,the group B and the group C were statistically significant(P < 0.05),while the difference between the group A and the group B was not statistically significant(P > 0.05).The difference in conjunctival edema and secretion between the group A and the group B,the group A and the group C were statistically significant(P < 0.05),while the difference between the group B and the group C was not statistically significant(P > 0.05).(5)The curative effect comparison: the group A showed 56% obvious efficiency,32% efficiency,12% inefficiency, and 88% total efficiency. The group B showed 40% obvious efficiency,32% efficiency,28% inefficiency, and 72% total efficiency. The obvious effective rate of the group C was 21%,the effective rate was 37%,the ineffective rate was 42%,and the total effective rate was 58%.Compared among the 3 groups in pairs, the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).The group A worked best. That is to say,the group C < the group B < the group A.Conclusion:Azelastine hydrochloride eye drops and needle therapy(bi-taiyang,bi-cuanzhu)combined with traditional Chinese medicine(sophora, pueraria lobata, peppermint)fumigation, azelastine hydrochloride eye drops combined with traditional Chinese medicine(sophora, pueraria lobata, peppermint)fumigation, only azelastine hydrochloride eye drops all had the clinical effect.By contrast,Azelastine hydrochloride eye drops and needle therapy(bi-taiyang,bi-cuanzhu)combined with traditional Chinese medicine(sophora, pueraria lobata, peppermint)fumigation worked best.Symptoms and signs could be improved obviously.Azelastine hydrochloride eye drops combined with traditional Chinese medicine(sophora, pueraria lobata peppermint)fumigation worked better than only azelastine hydrochloride eye drops. It had certain clinical effect and could be promoted as an effective method to treat allergic conjunctivitis in primary school students in clinical.
