Efficacy And Safety Evaluation Of Taohong Siwu Decoction In The Treatment Of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Taohong Siwu Decoction in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN).Methods: Nine databases including Pub Med,CNKI,CBM,VIP,Wanfang Data were searched.Randomized controlled trials(RCTs)of the experimental group(Taohong Siwu Decoction)and control group(western medicine)in the treatment of DGP were included.The retrieval time was from the establishment of the database to December 2,2019,and the statistical analysis was performed with Stata12.0.Results: Totally 17 RCTs with 1334 patients were included.The results of meta analysis showed that the effective rate of the Taohong Siwu Decoction group was markedly higher compared with the control group(RR = 1.39,95% CI: 1.31-1.48),P < 0.0001),and regardless of the size of the sample size,the duration of treatment,whether the experimental group combined with the western medicine treatment can significantly improve the effective rate.Taohong Siwu Decoction group can significantly improve the median motor nerve conduction velocity(SMD = 0.67,95% CI: 0.41-0.92,P < 0.0001),the total fibular motor nerve conduction velocity(SMD = 1.42,95% CI: 0.52-2.32,compared with the control group,P = 0.002),median sensory nerve conduction velocity(SMD = 0.56,95% CI: 0.36-0.75,P < 0.0001)and total peroneal sensory nerve conduction velocity(SMD = 0.61,95% CI: 0.42-0.81,P < 0.0001);compared with the control group,the experimental group can improve the blood glucose of patients 2 hours after meal(SMD=-0.29,95%CI:-0.58--0.01,P=0.046).There was no remarkable difference in improving fasting blood glucose and adverse reactions between the two groups.Conclusion: Taohong Siwu Decoction has a good clinical effect and safety in the treatment of DPN.It can significantly improve the total effective rate,median motor nerve conduction velocity,common peroneal motor nerve conduction velocity,median sensory nerve conduction velocity,common peroneal sensory nerve conduction velocity,and reduce the blood glucose for 2 hours after meal.There is no statistical incidence of adverse reactions between Taohong Siwu Decoction group and control group.More high-quality RCTs are needed for further verification.
