Meta Neuropathy Clinical Efficacy Of Traditional Chinese Medicine Decoction Diabetic Peripheral Analysis

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of Chinese decoction therapy for diabeticperipheral neuropathy in terms of the evidence-based skills.Material and method: To electronic search VIP，CNKI and Wanfang database from January1989to March2012. The key words were “diabetic peripheral neuropathy”,“prescription”,“decoction” and “drink”. In order to avoid omission, the search strategy is fuzzy search. Datawere extracted independently by two reviewers, and by using the modified Jadad scorestandard to evaluate the quality of the included literatures. The meta-analysis was performedby RevMan5.1. At first, the related studies were tested with heterogeneity and then thecorresponding effect models were selected by the result of heterogeneity test. The end effectindex was showed by odds ratio (OR) or mean difference (MD) within95%confidenceinterval (CI).Results: In the end, a total of20articles were included and1573patients with DPN wereinvolved. The quality of all included studies was low. In terms of the significant efficiencyand total effective rate, the group of Chinese decoction therapy is better than the group of purewestern medicine therapy for DPN, and the difference had statistical significance (P＜0.00001). But in terms of the improvement of MNCV and SNCV, the outcome indicators canbe only done with descriptive analysis due to the heterogeneity. The result shows that thegroup of Chinese decoction therapy is better than the group of pure western medicine therapyfor DPN.Conclusion：The Chinese decoction therapy for DPN can raise the significant effective rateand total effective rate as well as the improvement of MNCV and SNCV. But due to theheterogeneity of the outcome indicators of MNCV and SNCV, they are only done withdescriptive analysis without combined analysis. The superiority of Chinese decoction therapyto pure western medicine therapy cannot be fully convinced. The clinical efficiency ofChinese decoction therapy is still necessary to perform more high quality、large sample、double blind and multi-center randomized controlled trials to make the conclusion more reliable.
