Objective: Surgical resection is the primary treatment strategy for pheochromocytoma, however, part of patients still had hypertension after successful adrenalectomy, the risk factors of hypertension persistence in patients with pheochromocytoma after adrenalectomy were still unclear which need further exploration,we aim to identify the risk factors of hypertension persistence in patients after successful pheochromocytoma surgery. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 181 patients who underwent pheochromocytoma surgery at our center between January 1,2007 and December 31,2015.Demographic characteristics, comorbidities and perioperative data were recorded.Multivariate binary logistic regression were used to estimate the adjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals, receiver operating characteristic curve analysis were used to calculate the cutoff values and the area under the curve.Variables whose P-value <0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: Of the 181 patients,73 patients still had hypertension after adrenalectomy. The independent risk factors of hypertension persistence in patients after successful pheochromocytoma surgery were duration of hypertension and CHD(coronary heart disease history),with odds ratios of 2.525(P < 0.001),21.676(P =0.01).The optimal cut off values for duration of hypertension were 27 months. Conclusions: Duration of hypertension and coronary heart disease history were independent risk factors of hypertension persistence in patients after successful pheochromocytoma surgery, this may help us in predicting the blood pressure recover rate after surgery.
