Objective Meta-analysis was conducted on the efficacy and safety of eTNS in the treatment of MDD.The quality criteria of the trials included in the study provide useful clinical evidence for external trigeminal nerve stimulation in patients with major depression? Methods In computer retrieval Pubmed,Embase,CNKI,WANFANG DATA and so on,through the network database retrieval keywords to retrieve relevant literature, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,we selected the full text of literature and read the details, collected important information from included articles: the author, the year of published time, the experimental group and control group, the location and frequency of eTNS and stimulating cycles, observation indexes, side effects, etc. The collected data were meta-analyzed using STATA 14.1.Results Six articles were included in this study, including two randomized controlled trials(RCTS)and four single-group clinical trials. The total sample size was 96.The results of the meta-analysis showed that eTNS assisted antidepressant treatment of MDD was more effective in the improvement of depressive symptoms, and there were no serious adverse reactions to confirm the safety of eTNS in all the trials. The ease of operation and convenience of eTNS compared with other invasive electrical stimulation greatly increases the feasibility of eTNS as an antidepressant in the treatment ofMDD.Therefore,eTNS assisted antidepressant treatment of MDD can improve the condition. Conclusions eTNS as a neuromodulation therapy deserves more attention in the treatment of major depression.
