Abstract/Summary:
At present, the degree of aging in China is deepening and the speed is getting faster and faster, the scale of the elderly population is expanding, the proportion is rising, and the characteristics of aging are remarkable.Compared with other age groups, the elderly population has a relatively low overall health, high prevalence and serious disease. Therefore, the demand for medical resources and medical services is higher, which is a major subject of medical service utilization. In recent years, rising medical costs have become an important issue in many countries.China’s medical expenses have also shown a trend of sustained and rapid growth. This growth is not only related to the improvement of medical standards, the trend of population aging, and the impact of aging. There are also other drivers. There are many literature studies pointing out that the cost of using medical services for the dying elderly has increased dramatically, accounting for a higher proportion of total medical expenses. Therefore, the utilization of hospice medical services for the dying elderly has become a very important and worthy concern.Understanding the utilization of hospice medical services for the dying elderly can provide a basis and direction for improving the rapid growth of medical expenses in China and optimizing the allocation of medical resources. At present, there are more studies related to the utilization of medical services in China, but there is very little research on the utilization of medical services in the special stage of the"end of life" of the elderly, and it mainly focuses on the introduction of hospice care as a soothing alternative. There is lack of empirical study of the utilization of hospice medical services.Studies abroad have pointed out that factors such as hospice care and long-term care insurance have different effects on the medical services of the dying elderly. And beyond these factors, are there other factors that affect the use of hospice medical services for the dying elderly?Taking into account the elderly due to aging, inconvenient movements and other reasons, medical treatment often requires companionship support, and whether the elderly can be treated in time with their accompanying doctors is closely related to their living arrangements. Therefore, this article will explore whether the living arrangement has an impact on the utilization of hospice medical services and how it affects.First, this paper will use the Stata software for data preprocessing based on CLHLS data(Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey).Secondly,I will use the logit model and the heckman sample selection model to study the impact of living arrangements on the utilization of hospice medical services for the elderly. Finally I will study the effects of variables such as age of death, income level,self-care ability on the living arrangements affecting the use of hospice medical services.According to research, the main finding of this paper is that living arrangements do have a significant impact on the utilization of hospice medical services for the dying elderly.Compared with elderly people living in institutions, older people living alone or with their families have a higher probability of getting timely medical treatment, and the cost of dying medical services is higher. The age of death, income level and self-care ability of the dying elderly play a regulatory role in this effect. The research results enrich the research content of the use of hospice medical services in the elderly in China, and provide some discussion and thinking directions for controlling the increase of medical expenses.
