Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy,improvement of quality of life and safety of Wenshen Runchang method in the treatment of Functional Constipation of yin and yang deficiency in the elderly,and to provide clinical application basis for Wenshen Runchang treatment of Functional Constipation(FC)Methods:A total of 60 elderly patients(age?60 years old)who were admitted to the Department of Gastroenterology and hospitalized for Functional Constipation in Jiangsu provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were rancdomly divided into treatment group and control group?30 cases in each group.The treatment group was orally given with Wenshen Runchang Recipe,one dose per day.after morning and evening,meals,and the control group was orally given with lactulose oral solution.3 times a day.10 ml each time.The two groups were treated for 8 weeks respectively.TCM syndrome.clinical symptoms.quality of life and safety would be observed within and between groupsResults:(1)Comparison of basic conditions:There was no statistical differences in gender and age between the two groups(p>0.05).(2)Comparison of symptom scores at each time node Within the group:At each time node,in treatment group and the control group,there were significant statistical differences in main symptom scores,the secondary symptom scores and the total symptom scores between before and after treatment(p<0.01).Between the groups:From the 4th week,there was significantly statistical difference for main symptom scores between the treatment group and the control group(p<0.01);At the 8th week,there was significantly statistical difference f-or the secondary symptom scores between the treatment group and the control group(p<0.01);From the 4th week,there was significantly statistical difference for total symptom scores between the treatment group and the control group(p<0.01).(3)Comparison of curative effect of TCM syndrome:There was significantly statistical difference between the treatment group and the control group after treatment(p<0.01).(4)Comparison of single symptoms:Within the group:At the end of the treatment period,there was a significantly statistical difference for each individual symptom in treatment group,before and after the treatment.(p<0.01).In control group,there was no statistical difference for the abdominal distension symptom in before and after(p>0.05).the other items showed significantly statistical differences(p<0.01).Between the groups:At the end of the treatment period,there was no significantly statistical differences in fecal traits?soreness and coldness of waist and knees?feverishness in palm and soles between the two groups(p?0.05),as for other single symptoms,there were statistical differences between the two groups(p<0.05).(5)Comparison of quality of life:Each group has a significantly statistical difference in the quality of life before and after the treatment(p<0.01).After the treatment,there was a significantly statistical difference in the quality of life between the two groups(p<0.01).Research conclusion:Wenshen Runchang method for the treatment of Functional Constipation of yin and yang deficiency in the elderly has obviously advantages in improving TCM syndromes,clinical symptoms and quality of life.It has showed highly safety and should be worthy of further study and promotion in clinical practice.
