[Objective] By analyzing of the related literature of nursing workload and job satisfaction at home and abroad, this paper summarized the measurement methods and tools for workload and job satisfaction of nurses, then we can select the proper items for workload and job satisfaction measurement.Through the empirical research in tertiary general hospitals in Wuhan,we can have a better understanding of the nursing workload and job satisfaction in the operating room, and discuss the effect of the workload on the job satisfaction, providing the basis for relevant interventions.[Methods](1)Literature analysis: In this thesis,we summarized the measurement methods and tools for workload and job satisfaction of nurses at home and abroad, make a literature review on the correlation between nursing workload and job satisfaction.(2)In-depth individual interview: by visiting to the people in charge of human resources, the experienced operating room nurses and doctors, the head nurse of the operating room(8 persons in each hospital),the interviews include the present situation of the operating room nurses and the key factors that affect the nursing workload.(3)Semi-structured interview: we select 10 experts who worked in the operating room for more than 5 years,in order to construct the quantitative evaluation system of nursing workload, they screen the measurement items of the workload.Combining the relevant literature and clinical experience,to determine the score of each items.(4)Questionnaire: the study randomly selected one week during September and November in 2016,make a survey on the nursing workload and job satisfaction of the operating room nurses in two tertiary general hospitals in Wuhan. In this study,we gave out 220 questionnaires and obtained 198 valid questionnaires, the effective rate of the questionnaire was 90%.(5)Statistical method: database was established by Epidata,we used SPSS22.0 and excel for data analysis.P<0.05 is considered to have statistical significance. We described the basic information about the operating room nurses.Using independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA to discuss the effect of sociological characteristics on nursing workload and job satisfaction.Pearson correlation analysis was used to explore the correlation between workload and job satisfaction. The influencing factors of job satisfaction were analyzed by ordinal logistic regression [Results](1)the measurement methods for nursing workload are different at home and abroad. The nursing workload is classified into four levels at broad, include unit level, job level, patient level and situation level, each levels has its own measurements. In china, the most commonly used method are nursing hours measurement, counting method, grade nursing measurement, the measurement based on ADL and load weight method.(2)the main items that affect the workload of the operating room nurses include four aspects: the operation grade, the time of the operation, the position and the patients.(3)the workload of the operating room nurses is heavy, the average working time is 45.64 hours per week and the workload score is 26.44 points. The workload of operating room nurses is statistically different in gender and employment style(P<0.05).the workload of men is higher than the women, the workload of the contract nurses are higher than the formal nurses.(4)the average score of job satisfaction of operating room nurses is 2.88±1.06,the highest dimension is co-workers(4.13±0.54),the lowest dimension is extrinsic rewards(2.54±0.72),the job satisfaction is different in age, years of working, employment style, education, titles and income.(5)the nursing workload is negative correlated with job satisfaction, there is also a negative correlation between nursing workload and scheduling, balance of family and work, interaction opportunities, professional opportunities and work control and responsibility.(6)Ordinal multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the workload, the nature of labor, the title and the monthly income were the main factors influencing the job satisfaction of the nurses.[Conclusions] Through the research on the workload and job satisfaction of the operating room nurses in the tertiary general hospitals in Wuhan,it shows that the workload of the operating room nurses is heavy, the satisfaction level is low,the workload is negatively correlated with the satisfaction, the heavier the workload is,the lower the satisfaction degree,we can use the quantitative workload performance style, increase the operating room nursing staff, the implementation of proper scheduling, strengthen the training to improve the situation.
