OBJECTIVE:This study aim to use dental function classification system combined with subjective assessment to evaluate the outcomes of prostheses therapy,to Investigate the effectiveness of using dental function classification system evaluate prostheses treatment.METHODS:250 patients who came to Stomatology Hospital Affiliated to Guangxi Medical University,Department of Prosthodontics from March 2012 to January 2013 were selected as experimental subjects. All of 250 patients were asked to complete a structured questionnaire, which contained the Chinese short version of the Oral Health Impact Profile(OHIP-14CN),demographic information, and self-evaluation of chewing function table. Then a clinical examination was conducted by a calibrated examiner.Only the presence of tooth, tooth type, and the number and location of natural POPs and tooth replacement and decayed teeth/filling up teeth/missing teeth were considered in the study.Follow-up data were collected 1 month after complete prostheses treatment, which contained Oral Health Impact Profile(OHIP-14CN),Self-evaluation of chewing function table,Oral health data and existed prostheses.Make the following analysis:To investigate dental function statue and prosthodontic effectiveness with ahierarchical dental functional classification system, oral health-related quality of life(OHRQoL)and chewing function index were used as patient's subjective indicators to evaluate the outcomes of prostheses therapy, amultivariate linear regression was use to determine associations of promotions in hierarchical dental functional classification system with the change of chewing function index and the oral health-related quality of life(OHRQoL)index.RESULTS:1.250 patients were categorized in the functional classification system, and it was found that:160 patients meet "?10 teeth in each jaw"branch,106 patients meet"12anterior teeth present"branch,154 patients meet“3or4occluding paire of premolar zone"branch,144 patients meet "? occluding paire of molar zone "branch. Some of the patients were reclassified to higher level in the functional classification system after prosthetic treatment, and they were not meet before:12 patients promote to "?10 teeth in each jaw"branch,26 patients promote to "complete anterior teeth(12anterior teeth present)"branch,8 patients promote to "premolar sufficient"branch,8 patients promote to "molar sufficient"branch.2.The questionnaire result:The seven average of oral health related quality of life scale was lower than before treatment, the difference was statistically significant(Wilcoxon rank and inspection,P<0.05).Compared 4kinds of soft food and4 kinds of hard food chewing function index before and after prostheses treatment, and it was found the two groups had statistical significance difference(Wilcoxon rank test,P<0.05).3.The result of multivariate linear regression:with four functional level upgrade(? single jaw,? front teeth,Ivpremolars,? molar)of dental functional level classification system as independent variables, respectively, the following two groups food of mastication index changes as the dependent variable, and result of the regression model testing and variance were:hard food group(R2 =0.015,F-0.926,P>0.05),soft food group(R2= 0.027,F = 1.693,P>0.05),the regression equation was not statistically significant. To oral health related life index changes as the dependent variable, respectively dental functional level functional level classification system upgrades and no functional group level upgrades group as the independent variable, the result of regression model test and variance analysis results:dental functional level upgrade group(R2= 0.037,F=2.29,P>0.05))no functional level upgrade group(R2= 0.058,F= 1.182,P>0.05)the regression equation was not statistically significant.using single factor regression analysis on the correlation of increased tooth number and the change index of oral health related quality of life, and regression equation was statistically significant(R2= 0.082,F=21.54,P<0.01,B=0.287).CONCLUSIONS:The using of dental functional level classification system to evaluate the therapeutic effect of prosthodontics still have some limitations, further evaluation should be combined with other means.
