Objects:(1) To describe the dentition status and prosthodontic types of the patients;(2) To investigate the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of patients before and after prosthodontic treatments and analyze the correlation of OHRQoL and gender, age, socio-economic status(SES), smoking habits, dentition status and prosthodontic treatments;(3) To provide the research reference for the comprehensive evaluation of clinical effects and the reasonable selection of the therapeutic methods. Methods:The patients who sought prosthodontic treatments were selected randomly and were asked to completed oral examination and the Chinese version of OHIP-14before and after the treatments. The statistical analysis was performed to analyze the relationship of OHIP score and demographic factors, and dentition status categorized by Nijmegen dental functional classification system. Results:One hundred and sixty-six of210outpatients were analyzed and the number of patients who received single crown, FDP, implant and RDP is60,20,25,61respectively. There are significant differences for the dentition defect patients with different SES and different smoking habits (p<0.05). The OHIP score has positive correlation with the number of tooth loss (B=0.552, P<0.001), as well as the impaired level Ⅱ(≧10teeth in both upper and lower jaw) and Ⅲ(all12anterior teeth present) for the dentition defect patients. The domain of physical pain has the highest score before the treatments. The OHIP score of the four groups decreased significantly after treatments (p<0.001). The proportion of patients who experience negative effects decreased significantly after treatment, for RDP group this was significant for six items, for FDP group was two items. The per tooth added of FDP have positive correlation with the change of OHIP, but not for the RDP. The decreased OHIP score has positive correlation with the improved level Ⅲ(all12anterior teeth present) for RDP group (P<0.05).Conclusions:The OHRQoL of dentition defect patients was strongly associated with SES, smoking habits and tooth loss."Less than ten teeth in each jaw" and "incomplete anterior region" were two strong predictors of impaired OHRQoL of the patients with dentition defect. The four types of prosthodontic treatments all improved the patients’ OHRQoL. The per tooth added of FDP have positive correlation with the improvement of OHRQoL. The increased OHRQoL of RDP group is strongly associated with the improved anterior teeth area.
