Objective: To investigate the status of low-back pain in the group of junior nurses in two tertiary hospitals in Qinhuangdao, and further to analyze the related factors to junior nurses' low-back pain. This study will provide bases and evidence for developing effective measures of preventing or intervening junior nurses' low-back pain to improve their health. Methods: Stratified cluster random sampling strategy was adopted to select a total of 230 junior nurses from two tertiary hospitals in Qinhuangdao city. The participants were surveyed with three questionnaires including self-made general data questionnaire,SF-36 health status survey, and Chinese RMDQ low back pain scale to collected data from July to September in 2017.Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the participants' personal information, working condition, organizational management, and low back pain. The related factors to junior nurses' low-back pain was analyzed with single-factor variance analysis,t examination,Pearson correlation analysis and multiple-regression analysis. Results: A total of 230 questionnaires were distributed and 220 were returned and identified valid. The effective rate was 95.65%.1.The age of the participants was 22 to 36 years old, with an average age of 27.07±2.24.Among the participants,38(17.27%)have junior college record, while 182(82.73%)have bachelor or above degree.More than 145(65.91%)are nurse practitioners, while 75(34.09%)are registered nurses.2.Working conditions: There are 64(29.09%)participants keeping standing less than 4 hours in their work, while 156(70.91%)keeping standing more than 4 hours.168(76.36%)participants carried patients by hand frequently, only 52(23.64%)surveys showed this happened very few;42(19.09%)had sufficient self-protection consciousness, while 178(80.91%)had insufficient self-protection awareness;32(14.55%)satisfied with the job very much, and 98(44.55%)showed general satisfied, meanwhile 90(40.90%)demonstrated dissatisfied.3.Organization and management situation: 46(20.91%)thought the staff are often enough, but 174(79.09%)showed that rarely enough.4.Pain conditions: the incidence of low-back pain was 82.28%(181)with 63.64%(140)mild pain and 18.64%(41)severe pain.5.The education background, professional title, working time, carrying patients by hand,self-protection consciousness, job satisfaction, and adequate staff were different(P<0.05)in the junior-nurses' low-back pain scores.Social function, affective function, and mental health were negatively associated with junior-nurses' low-back pain(P<0.01).6.Multiple regression analysis showed that keeping-standing time and carrying patients by hand were predictors of junior-nurses' low-back pain;and adequate staff,self-protection consciousness, mental health, and emotional functions are preventive factors.Conclusion:1.The junior nurses' low-back pain in the tertiary hospitals in Qinhuangdao is common, but most are mild pain.2.The junior nurses' low-back pain in the tertiary hospitals in Qinhuangdao is associated with the education background, professional title, working time, carrying patients by hand, adequate staff,self-protection consciousness, job satisfaction, social function, affective function, and mental health. Thus,it is possible that the occurrence of junior nurses' low-back pain can be lessened by reducing the incidence of carrying patients by hand, shortening the keeping-standing time, configuring adequate staff, and increasing self-protection consciousness, and social psychology healthy.
