Objective:To investigate the status of temporary ejaculation failure among males consenting to IVF,and to identify the psychosocial factors related to males TEF(Temporary Ejaculation Failure,TEF)in order to provide a theoretical foundation for improving the success rate of IVF.Method:By convenient sampling,298 males, who consent to IVF at the reproductive center in a Grade A Class-three Hospital in Shandong Province, were chosen as subject investigated, and were asked to complete a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire included general information,Perceived Stress Scale(PSS),stigma questionnaire,Perceived Social Support Scale(PSSS)and Positive Psycap Questionnaire(PPQ).The related clinical data about the result of sperm retrieval were sampled and analyzed by SPSS 19.0.The statistical methods included descriptive statistics analysis, independent sample t-test,Chi-square test and binary logistic regression analysis.Result:1.The distribution of social-demographic characteristics and clinical data for males consenting to IVF.The age of 298 sperm retrieval males arranged from 24 to 53,and their average age was(35.43 ± 6.52).The portion of males with college degree or above was 55.7%.The portion of males, whose marriageable age was above 5 years, was 53.4%.74.2%of the males were employed, and 64.4%making both ends meet.69.5%of the males lived in city. The portion of patients, whose BMI?25kg/m2,was 52.7%.59.7%of the males had no children, and the rate of males, whose infertile course arranged from 3 to 5 years, was 40%.The portion of males under 2 to 5 years therapy were 49.7%,the frequency of TEF was 2 or more than 2,and the incidence rate of TEF was 25.2%,76.5%of the males investigated have masturbation experience.2.Comparison on the difference of social-demographic and clinical data of TEF or not.In the study,It was shown by independent sample t-test and Chi-square test that there were significant differences in age and education between the group of TEF or not.Age of the group with TEF and the group without TEF were(37.01±7.11)and(34.89±6.24),respectively.Age of the group with TEF was higher than those without TEF.There was statistical differences(X2=7.662,P=0.022)in education level for the incidence of TEF,and the incidence of TEF among the males, who had senior middle school degree or special secondary school degree, was lowest. The other social-demographic and clinical data were not statistically different.3.Comparison on the related psychosocial factors between the group of TEF or not.It was shown by independent sample t-test that perceived stress(17.57±6.51 vs.15.50±5.00,P<0.05)and stigma(4.52±3.87 vs.2.61 ±3.52,P<0.05)scores of the group with TEF were obviously higher than those without TEF.Social support(55.31±14.04 vs.60.74±10.93,P<0.05)and psychological capital(121.73±25.93 vs.130.31±17.32,P<0.05)scores of the group with TEF were obviously lower than those without TEF.There were significant difference in the sub-dimensions of social support and psychological capital(P<0.05).4.Logistic regression analysis on the predictions factors of TEF.Firstly, the incidence or not of TEF was chosen as independent variable.Age,education, perceived stress, stigma, social support, and psychological capital were chosen as dependent variables, and were included in mono-factor logistic regression equation respectively. The results showed that age(OR=1.051,P=0.016),perceived stress(OR=1.073,P=0.005),stigma(OR=1.139,P<0.001),three dimensions of social support:family support(OR=0.901,P<0.001),friend support(OR=0.932,P=0.023),other support(ORF=0.915,P=0.004)and four dimensions of psychological capital:self-efficacy(OR=0.947,P=0.009),tenacity(OR=0.947,P=0.013),hope(OR=0.930,P=0.002)and optimistic attitude(OR=0.953,P=0.032)could predict TEF,respectively and remarkably.Secondly,in order to analyze combined effects of the aforementioned psychosocial factors on TEF further, the incidence or not of TEF was chosen as independent variable.Factors such as age, perceived stress, stigma, various dimensions of social support and various dimensions of psychological capital, those were different statistically, were used as dependent variables, and were included into multiple-factor logistic regression equation. It was shown by the results that age(OR=1.071,P=0.002)and stigma(OR=1.132,P=0.003)could predict TEF positively, and were dangerous factors for the incidence of TEF.Family support(OR=0.877,P=0.012)could predict TEF negatively, and were protection factors for the incidence of TEF.Conclusions:1.It was shown by this research that the incidence rate of TEF among males consenting to IVF was 25.2%,and it was worth noting.2.Age,perceived stress and stigma could predict TEF positively, and social support and could predict TEF negatively.3.The influence of psychosocial factors on TEF couldn't be ignored, and could provide possible intervention target to reduce the incidence rate of TEF effectively. These could also provide support for increasing the success rate of IVF-ET.
