Research On The Square Space In Front Of Railway Passenger Station From The Perspective Of Urban Design

It’s no denying that China’s railway transportation industry has kept developing rapidly since the reform and opening up.As high-speed railway era is coming,the railway transportation,which is characterized by large traffic volume,high speed and efficiency and low energy consumption,plays a crucial role in national economy.Economy and transportation technology developing,the construction concept of railway passenger station will also be changed.Many problems,such as the uncoordinated development and separation of passenger station and urban space,the low efficiency of land use and the unreasonable industrial structure,are long-standing problems in the construction of China’s railway passenger station.With the trend of integration of urban construction,more and more attentions are paid to the integration of railway passenger station construction and urban space.Therefore,the Station Square,which is the “link” between railway passenger station and urban space,is the research focus of this thesis.Because construction concept is different,the square space in front of the railway passenger station will be designed to enhance the vitality of the urban area and integrate the urban spatial structure,which is not only the pure traffic space but the urban public space.This thesis summarizes the spatial form types and urban design elements of the station square in China with the theory and research of urban design.It uses the three most representative station squares(Beijing Station,Beijing West Station and Beijing South Station)in different construction periods,which have the design positioning including most of the characteristics of the station square in China,to analyze the incompatibility between most of the built station square and the urban development.In view of integration,this thesis sums up the interaction and mutual feedback between the station square and urban traffic,urban spatial structure,land use,industrial forms and other factors.This thesis concludes the different symbolic significance of the station square,the impact of the development and change of the city space,and the reference and suggestions for the reconstruction of the old station square and the future construction of the new station square with the vision of development.
