Research On The Application Of Beijing Traditional Brick Carving In Interior Design

As a result of the rapid social and economic development,people are in greater pursuit of spirituality and aesthetics.The public has begun to attach significance to the interior designs with national and traditional elements.Since the establishment of the 2003 World Inheritance Convention,the concept of the intangible cultural heritage has become more relevant and important.In China,the promulgation of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Law in 2011 and the implementation of the Beijing Intangible Heritage Protection regulations in 2019 have provided policy assurance for the preservation,inheritance and development of traditional Chinese art form of brick carvings.As an essential decorative art in ancient Beijing architecture,brick carving not only serves the purposes of decoration and beautification but also embodies the historical cultures and customs of ancient Beijing;as a carrier of the historic cultures and craftsmanship,Beijing brick carvings have also been practiced in modern settings.However,conflicts inevitably arise when traditions are integrated with modern elements.Since the craft has been widely adopted in modern Beijing for its traditional cultural connotations and embodiment of ancient metropoles,on the one hand,countless fine products have been produced,but on the other hand,problems on applications have emerged,such as the overuses and misuses of the art form.It is necessary to address the new issues regarding the inheritance and preservation of Beijing brick carvings.The essence of Beijing brick carving lies in its regional characteristics and exquisite craftsmanship.While introducing new applications,the historic and cultural values of brick carvings must not be forgotten.The research in this paper focuses on the emerging issues concerning the protection and inheritance of the traditional art of Beijing brick carvings.In consideration of the current status of the modern brick carving applications and preservation,the author of the paper studies the brick carving applications in Beijing's industry of interior designs.First,the author summarizes and reviews relevant literature with the emphasis on the functions and patterns,and the evolutions of Chinese brick carvings.Based on the literature review,the author defines the research direction of the paper.Second,the author illuminates the concept,classification,characteristics,and application methods of brick carvings in interior designs.The application foundation and the benefits of the brick carving integration into interior designs are analyzed.In the third part,the author examines the feasibility and necessity of the brick carving applications in interior designs.Also,the paper discusses the principles,methods,and influences of such applications,and presents optimized application strategies.The fourth part of the paper investigates the craftsmanship of Beijing brick carving applied to specific sectors of the interior design industry.For example,the utilizations of brick carving in interior designs of residential and commercial spaces,and businesses are examined.Lastly,the author analyzes the prospects of the cultural heritage of Beijing brick carving and expects the inheritance of such an art form to be truly achieved in our modern society.
