With so many highways completed and open to traffic,the public comments to the function and service of the highway service areas is increasing gradually.The problems in highway operation are in contradiction with the growing social needs.Doing well the development and operation of the highway service area,choosing a reasonable operation mode and improving the overall service levels while ensuring economic benefits,are the certain demands of operation of highway in the future.And it will be a way forward of sustainable development.This thesis starts with the researches of operation mode of the highway service area of domestic and foreign.And it analyses the research results and the formation of standards ofthe construction,development and operation of highway service area.And then,this thesis raises the shortcomings and problems of these researches.By listing the different patterns of operation of highway service area of domestic and foreign,as well as the actual state under the different patterns,the author analyses the common problems of operation of highway service area of domestic,thereby the research on reasonability of the pattern of operation of highway service area is introduced.The author takes highway service areas in Sichuan province for instance,and focuses on the option of the pattern of operation of highway service area,which based on the highway network.The author carries on the methods of SWOT to analyse the various influential elements of operation of highway service area.And by choosing some representative highway service areas as samples,the author carries on the methods of TOPSIS to establish index system and assessment model.Establish an indicator system and an evaluation model,And after all,the author quantitatively analyses these examples and contrasts the adaptability of the different patterns.At the end of the thesis,selecting representative and comparable examples in the highways service area of Sichuan Province,the operational effects of the same instance in different modes are compared,and the effectiveness of the evaluation model is verified.A feasible and effective service area operation model evaluation mechanism is proposed to provide a theoretical basis for scientifically selecting the operation mode.And the author also offers how to expand the operation scope and promote the level of sustainable development of highway service area.
