With the rapid development of highway, the design of the highway service area, one of the mostimportant parts of highway, has become a new subject to more and more engineering designers in China.Based on a large number of relevant references and research on the service area (mainly on the fivenewly constructed service areas of Shenda Highway), this paper has defined some related concepts of thehighway service areas, analyzed the background, given the significance of the planning and designing ofthe highway service area and, made both qualitative and quantitative analysis of various components withinthe service area to ensure its theoretical analysis accuracy. This paper cited some cases of the highwayservice area to be analyzed. This is for a thorough discussion and research on the designing of theexpressway service area, from a theoretical aspect as well as a practice aspect.In this paper, we first discuss the plan and design of service area and make a generalization of itshistory to present reform. The following is the research and analysis of its exterior and interior spaceCorresponding design methods guides are suggested to using spaces of different functions, detailed analysisare made in particular to transportation part and passengers' part in service area. In transporting service part,the main consideration is proper integrating ways to solve present problems. This paper tries to concentrateon communicating spaces in service area, starting with relevant environmental, psychological andbehavioral theory of communicating spaces module, giving suggestions on their dots design from designingtheory. In exterior communicating spaces, this paper analyzes their characteristics in detail, and offersuseful designing methods after referring to relevant resources. While to interior communicating spaces,space dots are especially important. It'd better start from practical details to add communication services topassengers and meet their needs.This thesis contains five Chapters. It begins with the overall services planning of Highway and thendescribes researches on design of main layout of buildings. Its contents are detailed as follows:Chapter one is preface, including the origin reasons, background, significance, main methods andprimary contents of the research. The author concisely introduces the development of Highway and theproblems aroused during the changes of Planning and Design of Service Area with the number ofHighways increasing enormously in China.Chapter two analyzes the changes of the Service Areas with the rapid development of ExpressHighway. The author describes the relationships between the Planning and Design of Service Area and thatof Highway. Proposes the highway service area scale rank classification.Chapter three analyzes the development of Highway Service Areas and demonstrates two majoraspects of its planning and design which contains the main points of the planning and design of the exteriorenvironment and the motor vehicles service facilities.Chapter four mainly focuses on the construction of buildings in the Service Areas. In this part, theauthor introduces the main point of its design and some problems people should be aware of. By multifactorial analysis, the last chapter concludes by outlining a development conception ofHighway Service Areas in the future, that is building a new kind of green, sustainable development servicearea s which is based on human and rich in cultural connotation.Finally, as the conclusion part of the thesis, the author reviews and summarizes the above viewsdescribed and give some advice on the future development of Express Highway Service Areas of ourcountry.
